Add hand stitches to raw edges.
Have you ever looked at a patch of land from above and marveled at the beauty of the fine marks in the land? For this map, I focused on the textural quality created by lines that are sometimes seen etched in the landscape. To achieve that effect, I added a few hand-stitched lines across the fabric surface.
The Painted Layer
Add texture in a few selected areas using fabric paint or acrylic paint (see The Painted Layer, page 25).
Add paint for interest and texture.
